A Frugal Friend's Review

Ever had one of those moments? Take a good look at the cover of "Mother of the Year: The Adventures and Misadventures of Parenthood

The mom with 3 children. One child dressed as his favorite superhero while pulling his younger sisters hair. You just know there was a big discussion about his outfit before they left home. Coffee spilling. Dog jumping. Baby spitting out the pacifier (which only means one thing....crying). AND......you know the mom tried really hard this morning. Hair pulled back. Makeup on. A nice clean outfit. Well, it was clean this morning, I just know it.

Ever had one of those moments? I think many of us can relate. Whether you are new mom just discovering this thing called motherhood, a seasoned veteran, an aunt, grandmother, or friend watching it all unfold, you can relate to this hilarious book by Jen Peters & Ginger Highland.

"Mother of the Year: The Adventures and Misadventures of Parenthood" is a must-read! It's filled with 1-2 page stories.......and I mean stories! Stories that will make you laugh so hard that you'll wake up whoever's sleeping (sorry, honey)! Stories that will make your jaw DROP! Stories that weren't funny at the time they happened......at all!

I have to admit if some of these things happened to me, I'd cry and hibernate! Really. But then I think about something that happened to a dear friend of mine. Something her child said. I fell on the floor laughing after the shock wore off. It would have been perfect for this book. Perfect.

These embarassing moments or comments by the sweetest children can happen to the best of us. This book gives us the reassurance that we are not alone.

Each story is submitted by a parent or grandparent who only tells you their first name for obvious reasons. Each story has a title - some of my absolute favorites that had me in stitches were "Bossy Pants," "Lemonade," and "Vitamins".

Warning: there are a lot of fluids (and solids) involved. I mean, we are talking about kids!

I know its so hard for us moms to find a few hours to enjoy a good book. That's what I love about this one, you can pick it up for a good laugh when you have 5 minutes alone in the car or 10 minutes until the baby wakes. You'll get recharged. Like me, you might even be thankful that you haven't had one of these moments.......YET!

This is the perfect fun gift with Mother's Day just around the corner. You can order the book with a special introductory offer of $11.95 here. Go there also to share your own personal stories for the authors to use.

Cool Moms Guide's Review

One evening I was strapping my daughter into her car seat. With a toy in her hand I attempted to seamlessly get her arms through the straps by quickly moving the prized possession from one hand to the other. Apparently this was not a hit as she scowled at me and said in perfect contest, ‘You’re really starting to piss me off.’” (Mother of the Year: Heidi)

Some of you may have noticed the killer ad in the sidebar of the Cool Mom Guide Blog for the book “Mother of the Year, The Adventures & Misadventures of Parenthood“. I recently also got a copy of this book to read for myself and immediately got excited about writing this review.

Mother of the Year is an entertaining collection of 76 humorous stories from mothers, fathers, and grandparents who’ve survived embarrassing potty moments, road trips gone bad, school mishaps, bedroom blunders, and other parenting situations.

It’s a quick, simple read because it’s not long stories. If you’re having a particularly rough day or just allowed your toddler to eat the dog food you know is in his mouth you can feel better knowing you’re not alone. Mother of the Year is there for you to reassure you that yes, there is chaos and disorder in this wonderful world of parenting, but when you look back on them, you’ve just gotta laugh.

Here’s another fine MOTY moment-

“My son and daughter were arguing about how many cheeks a person has. My 8 year old daughter, Sammy, was convinced we all had 2 cheeks. My 6 year old son, Joe, insisted we all have 4 cheeks.

After going back and forth my charming Joe turned to me and said, ‘See…Mommy has 4 cheeks. Two REALLY big ones (pointing to my bum) and 2 small ones (pointing to my face).’

He won.” (Mother of the Year: Mel)

I mean seriously, you HAVE to read this book. Right now, I’m watching my infant chew on a fast food take out box and you know what? IT’S OKAY. Well, I mean it could be better but he’s right in front of me, he’s not screaming and I’m allowed to write this review.

*Spoiler alert for my pregnant friends reading this, you may want to avert your eyes-I have three expecting friends and plan on getting each of them this as a shower gift!

I suggest you do the same (and get them for yourself while you’re at it).

The Domestic Diva's Review

Mother of the Year is one of those books you pick up to get a good life. Great for gift giving on mother's day or just as a quick fun read on your coffee table for guests. Mother of the Year tells the tales of "adventures and misadventures of parenthood".

Let's face we all have some less than perfect parenting days. Share and laugh in the stories of other mothers trying to feel their way through the ride of their life. There is something about hearing another woman struggle with the same issues that you struggle with that makes you feel human and not as crazy as you once thought. Mother of the Year is a great book and a must-own for all mothers, grandmothers, or moms-to-be.

I definitely gotta have that image. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a351/ineptyogi/gottahave.png

Pick up your copy of Mother of the Year just in time for Mother's Day. Give it as a gift or buy it for yourself, either way it is sure to brighten someones day.

Book Release and TV Appearance for…

“Mother of the Year:  The adventures and misadventures of parenthood”

A hilarious collection of short stories by real moms who share their mishaps of parenthood in
“Mother of the Year.”

Lake Oswego, OR - June 9, 2008 - Are you in the running for mother of the year? Ask Peters and Highland, co-authors of “Mother of the Year: The Adventures and Misadventures of Parenthood.” On Tuesday, June 10, 2008 the authors will appear on AM Northwest (KATU Channel 2) at 9:00 AM to discuss the book, stories, lessons, and laughs.

Pre-kids (PK), did you criticize the frazzled moms in the grocery stores? Hope and pray as you watched a woman drag her kids down the airplane aisle that they wouldn’t sit next to you? Giggle to yourself as you hear a kid ask his mommy why the man standing in front of him smells so bad?  We sure did!

Then you have kids of your own… and this is now you. Your embarrassing moment, your attempt at an explanation or finding a solution to end the scream-fest as quickly as possible, all-the-while trying to maintain some smidge of control and composure in front of everyone.

“Mother of the Year” is a collection of stories from mothers, fathers and grandparents about the time they asked themselves “Someone really let me be a parent?” They range from bathroom fiascos, out of the mouths of babes, busted in the bedroom, school calamities, road trips gone bad and every story in between.accomplish it all.

Then you adjust your plan. Peters and Highland found that one way to deal with their misconceptions of motherhood was to laugh about it with friends. They researched many mothers and found that most everyone has a story, even the seemingly “perfect mom”.

Every mom needs this book.

Since the book was released, the response has been astounding. Stories are pouring in of the laughs moms shared together reading this book and how well they could relate. Parents are sending in stories they want to share for the next series of books. They finally feel normal and can laugh at their well-intended mishaps instead of feeling like a failure.

This 112-page book can be found www.leisurearts.com/motheroftheyear, amazon.com, Meringue Boutique, Spoiled Rotten and Dragonfly.

Parenthood is a journey of ups and downs. “Mistakes are going to happen, but being able to laugh at yourself is the best way to get through them” says Peters. “When you share your experiences with friends, others feel better and more confident about the job they are doing as a parent” says Highland. Peters and Highland hope this book will bring some comfort to mothers that they are not alone in their “Mother of the Year” ways.

Amazon 5 star review…

“Laughter is the key to motherhood!, May 26, 2008

By

Christi "love to read" (Lake Oswego, Oregon) - See all my reviews

I believe that laughter is the key to being a great mother. Laughing at the situations we mothers find ourselves in makes being a mom even more fun. This book has fun personal stories from ordinary moms with the hilarious twists we all face. Great for any mom who strives for perfection but comes up short and can laugh about it!”

Email to Kriss Peters from Jeanne Hohman, Buyer Assistant for Fred Meyer Inc.

“I was reading that book ‘Mother of the Year’. Almost done with it, too funny. I laughed out loud several times. Pretty funny.”

When we asked if it was OK with her to use this response she continued…

“Jen, your book was a lot of fun to read. Put me right back there in the child rearing days. I chuckled and laughed out loud while reading.

My granddaughter is 9. She picked up the book and put it down only to have lunch. Couldn’t take her home until she finished reading it.

My brother-in-law would say to his wife,’Bring your fuzzy butt over here.’ While at the grocery store my 3 year-old nephew told everyone in the check out ‘My mom has a fuzzy butt.’

Congratulations on the book…Wish you the best.”

“Girls,

Just have to tell you that I gave a copy of your book to my mom for Mother's Day yesterday.  Along with a glass of wine we sat on the couch and dove in!

We had the best time....LAUGHING, remembering, sharing your stories and other stories that came up as a result.  At one point she was laughing so hard she said, ‘Thank god I'm wearing a pad ‘cuz I'm wetting my pants’.  She too is a MOTY.

Thanks for your great victory and for making my mother's day!”
